How to Use the Telephone (and Some Cheap/Free Tools) to Create a Lead Generating Magnet in One Hour for Less than the Cost of a Plywood Mandolin

The technology for this procedure is really simple and inexpensive.

I use a cheap or free survey tool like Survey Monkey or Survey Gizmo to generate a questionnaire about what my prospects want to learn. I send an email offering a free teleseminar about a general topic, and invite them to participate as well as to ask via a Web form their most pressing questions. I collect and analyze the results, and plan the teleseminar based on their interest.

I use one of the Free Conference Call Services for the call itself:

I use AudioAcrobat to record the call for up to 2 hours. I also make a backup using the Olympus DM-20 portable voice recorder, which I connect to my telephone handset using a little piece of equipment called the VEC TRX-20 (Google it to find a reseller). The DM-20 is also great for speaking engagements as well – look for good deals on eBay.

I upload it to my website using Audio Acrobat technology that even I can use without needing valium.

Sometimes I want a totally new domain name for the lead generating magnet. I get these very inexpensively, along with cheap and reliable hosting, at Get Going Online (a GoDaddy Reseller).

I get it transcribed by posting the project on Guru.com, a kind of eBay for freelancers. I typically pay between $15 and $35 per audio hour, depending on the level of editing I require.

I turn it into a PDF (Adobe Acrobat) document using Adobe Acrobat. You can find cheaper software programs that do the same thing by searching for "Create PDF".

I send the CD to Modern CD, and they mass produce them at great prices. They can also do labels and packaging.

I write a keyword-optimized press release using Marc Harty’s  methodology, and submit it to PR Web with a payment of anywhere from $0 to $200, depending on what kind of placement I’m looking for.

I submit a version of the press release to various offline media outlets, using Media Distribution Services.

I actively market the CD and report to get new leads for my business. Once I’ve turned the teleseminar into a CD,  I’ve got a hot little "audio business card" that positions me as an expert helper, rather than a salesperson. I also upload it to the web for prospects to listen or download. I also get it transcribed, and with a little editing, I have a hefty report or series of articles.
